COMPETITION TASK:

To design a car park building that can accommodate 833 vehicles with two floors of commercial program.

RESPONSE:

In order to achieve the desired number of parking spaces, the vertical circulation of cars is obtained through a system of one way streets and ramps. The width of the ramps together with their minimal inclination of just 3.75%, allows them to function simultaneously as traffic and parking surfaces. This rational traffic system, apart from obtaining the needed number of parking lots, allows better flow and easy driving orientation within the building. The sequence of parking spaces continue up to the roof, where besides a platform for observing the city, an expressive traffic landscape is created, something alike the historical Giacomo Matte Trucco’s track on top of FIAT factory in Turin. The outer appearance of the building echoes the Fordist concept of serial production, and is therefore consisted of repetitive façade elements that fold over the dynamic volume of the building.
